A PARISH council has answered the cries of teenagers by approving the installation of a youth shelter in its village.

Discussions about a shelter on the Blackbourne Meadow Playing Field, in Elmswell, have been going on for around 18 months, but on Tuesday the proposal received the backing of the parish council, with installation expected in around two months.

Youth worker Sue Messenger said: “It’s great to finally be having a youth shelter for the young people of Elmswell. Thanks to all who have made it possible, supporters from the parish council, funders, police, Community Safety and the youth of the village who chose the design – to raise £20,000 is a great achievement.”

The Ockenden shelter, designed by Lightmain, will be dark green and equipped with solar lighting.

Peter Dow, clerk to Elmswell Parish Council, said: “We’re extremely pleased that Sue Messenger has managed to get 100 per cent funding for it and we’re pleased that something we’ve been trying for for about 18 months is going to go ahead.”
