VIDEO: Stowmarket switches on its Christmas lights in spectacular style

Thousands flocked to Stowmarket’s market place for the town’s spectacular Christmas lights switch-on last night.

The festive fun began at 5pm with music from The Mementos, Eve and Richard, the Salvation Army band and local singer Samantha Harvey.

The Museum of East Anglian Life hosted a Christmas Craft Fayre in the Tithe Barn, a Santas Grotto in Abbots Hall and had a star appearance from two reindeers named Harry and William.

The town’s popular Christmas Tree Festival, which this year includes more than 400 trees across three venues in the town, was also launched.

David Marsh, the Town Council’s events manager, said he was delighted at how the night had gone.

“It is the best lights switch-on event we have ever had,” he said.

“It was the busiest it has ever been and there was such a great atmosphere. “The acts we had on stage were just brilliant and we were lucky with the weather. “It really couldn’t have gone any better.”
