PLANS to convert a former milk factory in Bury St Edmunds into an animal hospital went before St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s development control committee yesterday.

Veterinary business Swayne and Partners, which is currently based in Southgate Street, in Bury, has applyiedto knock down part of the dilapidated milk factory on Western Way to make way for a modern animal surgery.

At an earlier meeting of the committee, it was recommended the plans should be approved.

The vets firm, which was established in 1976, wants to demolish two auxiliary outbuildings and build a modern, two-storey cladded steel hospital in its place.

The site will include 31 car parking spaces and a cycle storage.
