Officials at RAF Mildenhall have confirmed that a suspicious package found earlier today was non-hazardous.

Base officials activated special control measures after the package was found at the base’s post office around 7.45am today.

After a joint effort from the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department, the 100th Security Forces Squadron, the Ministry of Defence police, the 48th Medical Group and the RAF Lakenheath Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, the scene was deemed safe.

The areas that were affected by this incident have re-opened and are operating according to their normal business hours.

A spokesman said: “RAF Mildenhall is committed to working together with our partners to ensure the safety of our people and the local community.”
