BT technicians will be repairing phone cables in Bury St Edmunds after a lorry brought down a telephone pole on Friday and caused a road to be closed.

Police were called just after 4.15pm on Friday to reports that a lorry had driven into telephone cables in Hollow Road, near Marlows Garden Centre.

The lorry subsequently became caught up in the cables, which are dangling over the road.

Hollow Road was closed from Eastern Way to Compiegne Way roundabout, causing rush hour delays.

A BT spokeswoman said today (Monday) that its engineers made the area safe and will return to make full repairs.

She added: “It appears that there is only one customer impacted and we will, of course, work to restore their service as quickly as possible.”
