UPDATED: Power cut hits 700 in Bury town centre

A power cut hit 700 homes and businesses in the centre of Bury St Edmunds this morning.

UK Power Networks says its engineers are working ‘as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to 115 properties’.

It says most customers were back on within an hour as supplies were restored in stages after the fault in an underground cable at about 10.20am. All premises were reconnected by 11.50am.

A spokeswoman added: “We understand how difficult it can be to be without electricity and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
