The Sainsbury’s superstore in Bury St Edmunds is currently closed while staff deal with flooding there following torrential rain.

A staff member said this afternoon that the Bedingfield Way store would stay closed until experts could be brought in to ensure it was safe.

A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We are working hard to reopen the store as soon we can and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. In the meantime, we hope our customers will shop in our nearby store in Mildenhall.”

She said the store had been closed ‘for safety reasons’ but nobody had been hurt and no food and other goods damaged.
