UPDATE: Two men bailed following violent assault in Bury St Edmunds

Two men arrested in connection with a violent assault in Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday have been released on bail.

At around 7.45pm on September 9 a man in his forties was assaulted in St Andrews Street South and was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with head and spinal injuries.

Two men from Bury St Edmunds, aged 50 and 57, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

They were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and questioned.

Both have been released on bail until Wednesday October 28, pending further enquiries.

Detectives are linking this attack to an earlier incident the same evening, where a man was assaulted at a public house in Guildhall Street, sustaining a suspected fractured cheek bone.
