A woman who died following a two-car collision on the A143 between Great Barton and Ixworth yesterday has been named by police.

Janet Machon, 79, from Ixworth, died of injuries she sustained in the accident on the A143 Bury Road.

Police were called to the crash involving a blue Suzuki Splash and a blue Ford Mondeo just before 4pm.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service cut Ms Machon free from the Suzuki she had been driving.

Two ambulances, a paramedic rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance were also called to the scene.

Ms Machon was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury, where she died from her injuries a short time later.

The drivers of two other vehicles that were in the vicinity of the collision, a Mercedes lorry and a silver Volkswagen Golf, are continuing to assist police with their enquiries.

Anyone who may have witnessed any of the vehicles either prior to, or at the time of the collision, is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101 quoting CAD 297 of June 24.
