UPDATE: Motorcyclist who died after collision in Barton Mills was airman at RAF Lakenheath

A 20-year-old man who died after a collision on the A1101 in Barton Mills was an airman at RAF Lakenheath.

Police were called just before 1.30pm yesterday (Friday, October 2) to reports of a collision between a silver Skoda and a motorbike just east of the A11 Five Ways roundabout.

The young man riding the motorbike sustained serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he died late last night.

He was an airman assigned to the 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron at RAF Lakenheath. His name will be released after his family have been notified.

Col. Robert Novotny, 48th Fighter Wing commander said: “It’s a sad day for the Liberty Wing, especially for those who knew this airman, and for his brothers and sisters in the 48th EMS.

“I ask that you join me in keeping this airman’s family, and all those who knew and loved him, in your thoughts and prayers.”

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
