Police are treating a fire at a derelict chicken shed in Stowmarket yesterday as arson.
Fire control received the call at 4.12pm to an outbuilding on fire on Stowupland Road.
On arrival crews discovered the chicken shed, approximately 10m by 40m, on fire.
Two hosereels were brought in to bring the blaze under control.
Crews from Stowmarket, Elmswell and Ipswich attended the scene.
Crews also reported asbestos roofing being involved in the fire so a safe undress procedure was carried out to ensure any fibres in the air or on the firefighters’ clothing was controlled in a safe manner.
The Operational Support Unit (OSU) from Ipswich East was mobilised to assist in the removal of the contaminated fire kit.
Fire crews were back at their base by 7.19pm.
A police spokeswoman confirmed the fire was being treated as arson.
