UPDATE: Cyclist transferred to Addenbrooke’s after fracturing vertebra in Bury St Edmunds collision

Police are on the scene of an accident in Bury St Edmunds which has left a cyclists seriously injured.

Officers were called to Dettingen Way, near to Aldi, just before 7.20am to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a Citroen Berlingo.

The cyclist, believed to be a man in his 50s, has sustained serious injuries. A volunteer doctor from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) attended the scene to support paramedics from the East of England Ambulance.

He has sustained a fractured vertebra and was initially treated by the SARS doctor and taken to West Suffolk Hospital by road ambulance. He is now being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Following the earlier road closure, Dettingen Way reopened at around 10.30am.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen what happened to call the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101, quoting CAD number 37 of Friday, January 8.
