Uncontested elections deny residents in 33 West Suffolk parishes the chance to vote on May 2 - as polling stations booked for possible European elections
Residents in 33 West Suffolk parishes have been denied the chance to vote on Thursday, May 2 due to uncontested elections.
Eight of the 43 wards for the new West Suffolk Council are uncontested, as are 93 of 117 parish and town council wards.
A West Suffolk Council spokesman said that as a result, 25 of the 131 polling stations will not be needed.
However, following the delay to Brexit, a notice of election has been published for European elections on May 23 and all 131 polling stations have been booked, should they be required.
The deadline for calling the European elections off is May 22.
