Two MPs from Norfolk and Suffolk take positions in PM’s Cabinet

Two MPs from our area have been named in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet reshuffle announced today.

Liz Truss, MP for South West Norfolk takes on the role of Secretary of State for Environment Food and Rural Affairs while Matthew Hancock is appointed Minister of State at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Minister of State for Portsmouth.

Mr Hancock, who is MP for West Suffolk, was made Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise last October and worked actively in promoting apprenticeships.

Ms Truss at 38 became an MP in 2010 and joined the Government as education minister just two years later.

Her appointment is one of several women now in Cabinet positions increasing the female profile of Government.

William Hague moves to the role of Leader of the Commons while Philip Hammond moves into Mr Hague’s position as Foreign Secretary. Michael Gove becomes Chief Whip while Nicky Morgan takes on the job of Education Secretary.
