Two mums from Stowmarket Swimming Club ensured they would spend Mother’s Day with their swimming-mad kids by handing out trophies at the Suffolk ASA County Championships.
Amanda Davis and Anneke Borrett put aside their dreams of getting pampered for the day and instead spent the day congratulating competitors in more than 50 races at Crown Pools in Ipswich.
Amanda, whose daughters Holly, 14, and Amy, 11, competed, said: “Our club always helps present the medals at this event so I offered because it is a great way of spending time with my two daughters, being in the thick of the excitement and getting to meet lots of young swimmers who are polite and great fun.
“My husband David happens to be here as a time-keeper as well.”
Anneke, whose boys Tom, 15, Rob, 14, and Nick, 12, were competing, said: “Mother’s Day always clashes with the county championships in March but as it is the pinnacle of the season for most of our swimmers, including my three boys, the best way around it is to be part of the event. It was really nice to see all the children happy to have won medals.
“My three did well too - they all got personal bests.
“We will be back there this weekend too, and the weekend after.
“But it wasn’t just me and Amanda there, this whole event is run by parents and volunteers.”
Stowmarket Swimming Club had a successful first weekend at the championships bagging seven gold medals.
