Inquest opens into railway death

An inquest into the death of an 82-year-old woman killed on the railway has been opened and adjourned.

The pensioner, today named as Brenda McFarland, also known as Olive, lived at the Paddock House Residential Care Home, in Eye.

She was killed at the Gipsy Lane railway crossing, in Needham Market, on August 24 after being struck by a train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned today at the Coroners Office, in Raingate Street, Bury St Edmunds. A full inquest will be held at a later date.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
