Thetford Town Council have agreed to take on responsibility for the running of a festival which promotes the town itself and the talent within it.
Thetford’s Great Festival was set up in 2011 by the Thetford Tourism and Heritage Partnership (TTHP).
The two-week long festival has previously been organised by members of the TTHP from active groups in the town, but at its full council meeting on October 28 the town council consented to take over its management.
Chair of the amenities committee and head of the TTHP Corinne Fulford said: “It has been so successful and running so well that it needs to run into a sound stage of development.
“The council has taken a lot more involvement in the last couple of years, so it was a natural progression.”
The council will provide a financial contribution to the festival, and will allow organisers to use many of its properties free of charge.
