Time of the signs discussion

The future of shop front design in West Suffolk will be considered by councillors next week.

St Edmundsbury Borough Councils’s sustainable development working party on Wednesday will look at responses to its proposed shop front design guide.

Though welcomed by the nine respondents, most have queries on detail points.

Illuminated signs lit up the Bury St Edmunds Society and Suffolk County Council. The society wanted a ban on lit signs in Bury’s conservation area, but officers say the guide cannot ignore local plan polices which say ‘sympathetic’ signs may be allowed for businesses that trade at night.

Those wanting lit signs will also be advised to check with the county that they are not too bright for road safety.
