More than 1,000 people embraced their patriotic spirit at Needham Market Raft Race which saw competitors splish, splash and splosh in a tide of red, white and blue.

Inspired by 'A Very British Raft Race' theme, 13 teams presented the best of Blighty during the 16th annual race at Needham Lake on Sunday with creative raft designs and costumes from a tennis court to the Grenadier Guards and even The Beatles.

Debbie Cadman, chairman of the Needham Market Raft Race Committee, said: "We had a good day and the weather was absolutely fantastic.

"The people who were there and took part had an absolutely brilliant time."

The overall winner of the race was Encore Wellness, which is a treatment and fitness centre in Needham Market High Street.

Team Four Non Bonds, which created a biplane, triumphed in the fancy dress contest.

They also won the Tracey Cadman Challenge, which is in memory of Debbie's sister who was part of the committee.

The trophy for best entertainment on the afternoon went to the Burgess Ladies.

Debbie thanked Mid Suffolk District Council, Needham Market Car Boot and Cllr Dawn Spurling, Mayor of Needham Market.

She added: "We couldn't do it without a dedicated committee of people.

"We had a really good raffle with lots of things donated by different companies and different people."
