A teenager who is having to watch her mother battle cancer, having already lost a friend to the disease this year, has shaved part of her head to raise funds for research.

Abii McKenna, 17, of Thurston, raised £230 for Cancer Research UK by cutting her long locks on Friday.

Her mother, Amanda, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, said: “I was nervous for her but amazed that she would do something like that.

“I feel proud of her for doing it. I think what she did was absolutely amazing.”

Sandra Feakes was responsible for shaving Abii’s head which she did in the Hair Studio in Thurston.
