Today is World Book Day (WBD) and staff at Thurston Community College are among those in the area celebrating the event.

Teachers at the school have been dressing up as their favourite book characters for the day with superheroes, fairytale characters and Roald Dahl’s imaginary creations all making an appearance.

School librarian Rob Gwilliam, who has dressed up as Harry Potter’s Colin Creevey, said: “The kids have loved seeing us dressed up today.”

He added: “Classes have been coming in and out of the library here and they’ve been reminded how much they enjoy books and reading.”

The school has held two WBD quizzes and a photo competition where pupils have had to guess which books the teachers’ characters are from.
