Thousands enjoy cars by the lake in aid of Bury St Edmunds hospice
Thousands of people flocked to see hundreds of classic and sports cars and eye-catching motorcycles at an annual fund-raising event on Sunday.
Classic and Sports Cars by the Lake, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care, saw Hall Farm, in Fornham St Martin, open its doors to 4,000 people.
They were able to inspect 670 vehicles – a record number for the show – and enjoy food, crafts and family attractions.
The final fundraising total is still being calculated, however it is hoped the sixth Classic Cars event has raised £30,000 for the Hospice.
Georgina Bissell, community fund-raising manager, said: “It was a really good day and we were lucky the weather was so fine. The cars were the stars of the show, with some excellent examples on display, and we had lots of feedback from visitors saying it was a wonderful day.”
Austin Cornish, head organiser, added: “It was a triumphant day, blessed by glorious sunshine.
“We are indebted to our main sponsor Greene and Greene, all our other sponsors who have been with us from day one, to the public for coming out in record numbers and the stars of the show - the car owners and their cars - without whom we wouldn’t have a show. I would personally like to thank all of the organising committee who well and truly do their bit organising a must-attend event of the year.”
