Spice Lounge in Mildenhall wins English Curry Awards title
Spice Lounge in Mildenhall has been named Restaurant of the Year at the English Curry Awards 2019.
The Indian in High Street won the top prize at the national ceremony in Birmingham Conference and Events Centre last week, as well as picking up the East of England crown.
The result was a dream come true for owner Jueb 'Jay' Ali, 35, who has been working in Indian restaurants since being hired by his grandfather as a 14-year-old.
He said: "All my working life has been dedicated to this industry. From a very young age, I worked in the trade and grasped skills in all areas. My experience from a young age, gave me the confidence and ambition to run my own restaurants.
"Spice Lounge has been a huge success and this award is our biggest achievements. Our secret to success is strong leadership and an excellent team, with a hunger to always improve and become better.”
Spice Lounge is the second venture for Mr Ali, who opened his first restaurant in Wales at the age of 22. He opened the Mildenhall restaurant ten years ago, at the age of 25.
The ninth curry awards aim to reward the hard work, determination and dedication of those in the curry industry.
Spice Lounge has previously won 'service of the year' at the awards.
