THIEVES have made life difficult for mums and dads working hard to get their village’s pre-school ready for the new term.
A committee of helpers has been working hard at weekends to redecorate the premises, which are attached to the village hall at Badwell Ash.
But on Saturday, they arrived to carry on decorating to find that burglars had broken in overnight and stolen the school’s computer, printer and digital camera.
“It is just so frustrating,” said Louise Moore, secretary of the organising committee of the pre-school, which caters for around 15 youngsters, aged up to five years old..
Although insured, it is not certain the equipment can be replaced in time for the beginning of term.
And it has detracted from the group’s next fund-raising venture which aims to find the money to buy around 20 new chairs.
Tomorrow, the band of helpers will be back and hoping to complete the decoration, which was curtailed because the police were called and needed time to carry out fingerprint checks on the building, which was entered through a toilet window.
Parents plan to celebrate the completion of the redecoration by holding a barbecue tomorrow.
Fund-raising for the chairs begins with a yard trail at homes from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, September 4.
Residents are urged to support the event by holding sales in their gardens, or by making a donation. Further information from Mrs Moore on 07775446845.
