Thetford's Green Dragon all fired up for official opening tonight
A Thetford pub that was closed earlier in the year has been given new life by a landlord and pub company wanting to get the establishment back into the community.
Ashley Jefford, the pub’s new landlord is really happy with how the refurbishments, costing around £125,000, look.
He said: “It is fantastic to finally open, it has been a long long road to get here and I am just glad at how it has turned out,
“It is great to give people another reason to come out into the town and to come into here.”
The 30-year-old landlord, from King’s Lynn, has run various pub, social clubs and even restaurants on holiday parks during his 12 years of experience.
He said: “After working in and around King’s Lynn, I made the decision to get out of the area and the Green Dragon came up, it sounded like a good challenge and a great pub so I went for it.”
The pub is owned by the Craft Union Pub Company, which also own The Flintknappers in Brandon, and has a philosophy of putting pubs back into the heart of the community.
With that in mind, Ashley is looking to restart two pool and darts team for the pub, bringing back a crib team and doing events such as Killer Pool tournaments.
Even though the pub has been open since August 13, the official opening will be tonight, starting at 6pm, when the Mayor of Thetford Town, Brenda Canham, will cut the ribbon for the pub, followed by live music for the night coming from an Elvis-style singer and a DJ.
The event will have an army theme with staff members dressing up, the pub’s walls covered in camouflage netting and Ashley said customers are more than welcome to dress in army gear too.
