Thetford Town council has signed transfer documents to enable it to take ownership of eight play areas in the town.
Once processed, this will mark the completion of a four-year project by Breckland Council to transfer ownership of play areas to the district’s five town councils, with supporting funding.
Cllr Trevor Carter, Breckland Council’s executive member for place, said: “Transferring ownership of these play areas is in line with our commitment to empower local communities.
“Town councils have great local knowledge and close contact with their residents so they are ideally placed to decide how funds are spent.
“If new equipment or upgraded facilities are required by the community, local groups can support this by helping with fund-raising.”
The eight play areas being transferred are in Fairfields, Harriet Martineau Close, Edinburgh Way, Guildford Way, Canons Walk, Pine Close, Elm Road, and Bergamot Close.
Breckland will transfer a commuted sum of £194,270 to the town council to support the maintenance and insurance costs.
