Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds to welcome Sir Ian McKellen for 80th birthday tour
An award-winning theatre and film star will be taking to the stage of the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds as part of his 80th birthday celebration tour next year.
Sir Ian McKellen, who is best-known for his role as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, will be doing a tour of 80 UK theatres, during which he'll present insights and recital from his career.
The performance, which will also make up part of the Theatre Royal's 200th anniversary year programme, will also see Sir Ian talk about his attachment to Bury St Edmunds and its theatre.
The show will run over two nights, on April 12 and 13, with the first performance sponsored by One Broker and the second sponsored by Gibbs Denley Financial Services.
Simon Rees, director of Gibbs Denley, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the Theatre Royal. We have worked with them a number of times over the years and the shows they run and service they offer are always of exceptional quality.
"The Theatre Royal is an incredible resource for Bury St Edmunds and we are proud to be able to help support them."
Both performances will contribute to The 200th Anniversary Fund, which will go towards the theatre's children, youth theatre and Associate Artists programmes as well as others.
Tickets go on sale to Members of the Theatre Royal tomorrow morning at 10am, two days ahead of general sale which starts at 10am on Monday, November 12.
