Stowmarket band The Virtues have been crowned the 2014 BurySOUND champions.
After three fiercely fought heats, finalists Echo Tree, Alicia Ann Mills, Fortunato, The Staycations and The Virtues took to the stage at the Apex in Bury St Edmunds for Saturday’s grand final.
The packed venue also featured a headline performance from last year’s winner Keys and a DJ set from XFM London’s Danielle Perry.
The competition, now in its 16th year, aims to showcase best upcoming young bands and artists in the area.
The Virtues’ drummer Owen Williams said winning the music competition took the whole band by surprise.
“It was the best gig we have ever played and the most fun,” he said.
“We didn’t think we had done it to be fair, we were just so happy to be playing at the Apex.
“We didn’t believe it when we found out we had won.
“The calibre of the other acts was incredible.”
