'Thank you': Bury St Edmunds community rallies to support Gatehouse at Christmas

The community rallied to support a Bury St Edmunds charity in the run-up to Christmas.

Gatehouse, which runs a foodbank and a Christmas Day lunch, has received donations from businesses, schools and groups.

Thurston Community College and St Benedict’s Catholic School, in Bury St Edmunds, filled boxes with food through reverse advent calendars. Guildhall Feoffment Primary and the Westley Campus of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Trust collected food.

Denny Bros ran an appeal for items after Paula Armstrong, office support administrator, heard a radio interview about foodbanks and a child who was ‘delighted because he had received a tub of crisps in his hamper’.

Direct Table Foods, in Little Saxham, gave meat for the lunch.

Bury Round Table’s santa sleigh stopped by as some of its collection proceeds benefit the charity.

Amanda Bloomfield, Gatehouse chief executive, thanked all those who gave their support.
