A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 weeks in a young offenders institution after pleading guilty to thefts in Red Lodge and Bury St Edmunds.

Connor Stembarski, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Ipswich Magistrates Court last Thursday after having pleaded guilty in September to nine counts of theft, one count of driving without insurance and one count of driving while disqualified.

Joseph Cousins, 19, of Guildford Way, Thetford, also pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft and was due to appear before magistrates yesterday.

The two men had carried out a spate of thefts in Red Lodge, Bury and Weeting between Tuesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 20, with power tools, sat navs, cash, bank cards, an iPod and a pair of headphones among the items taken.

Sgt Steve Duncan from Mildenhall Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "I’d take this opportunity to remind motorists it only takes a criminal a few seconds to open your vehicle door and search the glove box.

"Don’t make it easy for them – lock it and take valuables with you every time.”
