A Mildenhall teacher has been recognised for his work training teachers and encouraging students to take up physics.
Kevin Ward, vice principal of Mildenhall College Academy, is the first teacher to be recognised by The Institute of Physics.
He said: “It’s wonderful for me personally because it recognises the work I have been doing.
“It’s unfortunate I cannot share it with all the other people who worked on it.”
His work has included writing a physics curriculum that increased the number of pupils taking up the subject.
The curriculum addressed gender bias in the teaching of the subject and led to more female students taking it up.
His work has also involved the training of teachers in methods that provide students with the skills and ambition for a career in the lucrative industry.
The international award recognises Mr Ward as a leader in the professional development of physicists.
