An attempt to smuggle drugs into Highpoint Prison, in Stradishall, has been foiled by prison staff and police.

Officers from Haverhill were called to Highpoint on Sunday (January 3) after receiving intelligence from staff at the prison about a visitor who was going to try to take drugs into the building.

A man was searched and suspected Class A drugs were found wrapped inside condoms hidden in the soles of his trainers.

A prison dog was also used in a bid to detect the drugs.

A man from the London area was arrested on suspicion of committing drug related offences.

He was bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on March 30 to allow further enquiries to be made and the seized drugs to be analysed.
