A SLIMMER from Horringer, who lost seven stone in 12 months, is revelling in a more active lifestyle, with her beloved four-legged friend.
Allison Cronin was referred to the Moreton Hall Slimming World evening group last year by her doctor because, at more than 21 stone, she had dangerously high blood pressure.
Now, not only have her health and looks improved, but she is able to spend more quality time with her pet dog Marley.
“We used to walk but we didn’t get as far in an hour as we do now – it’s not until you lose the weight that you realise how much easier it is,” she said.
The 39-year-old has even gained the confidence to enter Marley, a beagle, in dog agility competitions and last weekend he impressed her by winning two rosettes, coming seventh out of 120 dogs.
Mrs Cronin said: “He always used to be half way down the field and not listening to me because I wasn’t near him.
“Now I’ll send him to one place and get ahead of him and sometimes he’ll come out of a tunnel and look at me as if to say, how did that happen?
“I wouldn’t have competed before because I wouldn’t have had the confidence – that’s what’s really changed.”
The mother of two is ‘determined’ to keep the weight off and aims to lose another stone and a half by Christmas.
“My mum and dad are ill because they’re overweight, you suddenly take stock of your life and realise that you’re not invincible – if the kids have kids, I want to be around for the grandchildren,” she said.
“Something needs to give you that wake up call,” she added.
Helen Silver, Slimming World consultant, said: “I’m delighted with Allison’s fantastic weight loss over the past year.
“She is a constant source of inspiration for the whole group.”
