A unique sandwich designed by students from Bury St Edmunds County Upper School is set to go on sale at Subway stores across the east of England from Monday.

The Sub, called Subtastico, was the result of a competition which asked budding entrepreneurs from schools, colleges and sixth forms to design and market a new sandwich.

The winning team from County Upper attended a special event at Subway, in Parkway, where they got to see their hard work come to fruition.

The winning Sub will be available from next week for customers to enjoy across the region and sold for a limited time only in selected stores.

The Sub features a mix of chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cucumber accompanied with BBQ sauce and served on Italian white bread.

Almost 100 teams from colleges and schools across East Anglia entered the competition. Six finalists were invited to a Dragon’s Den style pitch in front of a judging panel, at Cambridge University.

The team from County Upper are Louisa Baker, Hannah Robson, Beatrice Pakalnyte, Megan Manfield and Yasmin O’Farrell.

Liam Dalgarno, Subway development agent, said: “After all the team’s hard work it is brilliant to see their marketing materials and concepts come to fruition and launch in stores.”
