LOVED ones are being commemorated by a memorial garden which has been renovated by students.

As part of their annual ‘personal challenge week’, Year 9 pupils at Thurston Community College were given the opportunity to design and rebuild a garden to remember people in their community who have passed away.

The families concerned have all chosen to have a white rose grown around a decorative arch, which is the centre piece of the floral garden.

Student Nikki Jefferson said: “It has been a fantastic week, a chance to do something really memorable and meaningful.”

Rob Pollard, project leader, said a number of local businesses had helped by donating materials or providing them at a discount to the college, including Harvey’s Garden Plants, in Thurston, and Martin’s Nursery, in Bradfield St George.
