Talented singers at Bury St Edmunds County Upper School were given a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ to perform with the BBC Symphony Orchestra for the Benjamin Britten Centenary.
The school’s chamber choir joined Ipswich High and Woodbridge schools at Snape Maltings to showcase their abilities to sing the Britten ‘Welcome Ode’ with the orchestra.
Aldeburgh Music commissioned a piece for each choir and County Upper’s was a setting of Christina Rosetti’s poem ‘A Wish’ by Luke Fitzgerald. It premiered live on Radio 3.
Head Vicky Neale said: “It was a real honour for our chamber choir who sang superbly and we’re enormously grateful to Aldeburgh Music for giving our students this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
