Student shortlisted for a national construction award

A prize-winning construction student at West Suffolk College in the final eight for a national award.

Gary Fowler, 28, from Bury St Edmunds has been nominated by his employer, J Breheny Contractors, for the Duke of Gloucester Young Achievers Award for Construction Excellence in the Construction Delivery category.

Gary gave a presentation to the judges, who also interviewed him, last Friday and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on March 20 at London’s Globe Theatre.

Gary started with Breheny 10 years ago, as a ground worker and worked his way up to management.

.Gary said: “The main reason they nominated me was because of the hard work I have put in, managing my studies, achieving academically and at the same time producing excellent work for them.”

Gary has been studying for the past six years, and is now in the first year of a BSc in Construction, and due to graduate in 2015.

During his time at West Suffolk College he has also won Student of the Year and CIOB Best Professional Construction Student.
