The gift of a 1950s train set has given Stowlangtoft Hall Nursing Home residents a new, yet nostalgic, interest

The home had been seeking a project for residents and the Hornby 00-gauge set has fired imaginations with residents refurbishing the layout.

With help from Adrian Grenville of Bury St Edmunds’ Model Railway Club, residents are reaping physical and mental rewards from the project.

Home Owner Ruth French said: “We wanted a longer term therapeutic project, something that would be particularly aimed at the gentlemen living here, and we have been thrilled at the response.”

Resident Geoff Baugh, a long-time model railway fan, said: “I have a lot of experience in model railways and am looking forward to helping my fellow residents to create something really special for us to enjoy at Stowlangtoft Hall.”

The Home is now looking for more volunteers as well as any offers of buildings, scenery or rolling stock to boost their set and, perhaps take the initiative to their sister home at Brandon Park.
