A popular exercise class at Mildenhall Swimming Pool has suffered short-notice cancellations due to too few staff.

Members of the pool’s Water Workout classes were dismayed to find sessions had been cancelled with little notice, with the regular Saturday class stopped altogether.

Joyce Dixon, class member, said: “Over the past few months we have had eight or nine sessions where the staff have told us there is no instructor available. They should have a set up to deal with it.

“There can be 25 to 30 people in the class, and they have recently cancelled our Saturday class which makes the others busier.

Like some others, Joyce pays around £26 per month for a membership at the pool, which entitles her to free classes.

She said an ‘aqua gym’ class had been offered as an alternative, but not for every cancelled session.

“You have to go to two or three classes to make your money back. I know emergencies happen but we are paying for this privilege,” she added.

Simon Ginders-Coxshall, operations director at Abbeycroft Leisure, which manages the pool, said cancellations were caused by ‘a mixture of illness, annual leave and losing one of our instructors’.

“After finding new cover we are confident that class cancellations will be kept to a minimum,” he said.

Mr Ginders-Coxshall said the Saturday Water Workout class had been stopped to allow extra swimming lessons to ‘meet growing demand’.
