Get your camera and look up if you want to take part in a year-long photographic competition run by Bury St Edmunds' St John's Church.

The church has announced a "Going Spiral" photographic competition which will start taking entries on September 5 for a prize pot of £2,000.

It is inspired by St John's 178ft spire, built in 1841 and still a striking feature of the Bury skyline. But they seek photographs of all kinds of towers and spires, whether church or industrial.

The competition will run for a year because the organisers say these structures take on different aspects through 24 hours and as seasons change.

There are sections for photographers aged 18 or under on September 1, 2019 and for for those over 18 on that date.

It will be judged by professional photographers. A website, www.goingspiral.co.uk, is planned. (Note: this is not a live link because the website does not yet exist.)
