Squash classes will be moving out of Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre after a new partnership with a local sports club.

From late January bookings for the centre’s squash courts will be accommodated at the Risbygate Sports Club, in Westley Road, to enable squash players in the town to carry on playing.

The current squash courts are being removed as part of a studio expansion project at the centre, to create one new studio and expand another. This is in response to high demand on classes like Body Combat and Body Pump.

Operations director Simon Ginders-Coxshall said: “We have formed the partnership to accommodate our squash players to ensure the sport continues in Bury.

“The expansion of our studios is vital for us to continue to offer the popular exercise classes the community wants, but we also recognise people who play squash want to continue to do so.”

President of Risbygate Sports Club Kelvin Morton said: “We look forward to the challenges of encouraging sport in the community and endeavour to complement the leisure activites at Abbeycroft Leisure.”
