A television star will be joining church goers in Beck Row when Daisy the donkey visits them after this weekend’s Palm Sunday service.

Daisy will be at St John’s Church at about 11.45am to lead the procession and remind people of the role of a donkey in Jesus’s life. He is said to have ridden one into Jerusalem as the crowds laid down cloaks and tree branches in front of them.

Daisy last year appeared on Songs of Praise, being led by programme presenter Aled Jones. She will go to Beck Row on Sunday in the care of Donkey Sanctuary regional advisor Liz Wright and will come fresh from an appearance at Ely Cathedral, where she is also a regular at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve.

She is a rescue donkey and one of her roles is to raise awareness of the plight of donkeys overseas, where they are often overworked and abused.
