AFTER years of controversy, arguments and building work, a major supermarket is on the brink of opening.
A decision to bring a supermarket to Mildenhall was made in 2004.
On March 2, Sainsbury’s new store will finally open to the public in Recreation Way.
Work on the 23,000sqft store site began last February and is now nearing completion.
John Smith, manager of the new store, said: “Work is progressing well on our replacement store and with only a month to go, the team are looking forward to welcoming customers.”
Planning permission for the building was granted in 2008.
But the plans were almost scuppered when two parish councillors tried to register the Jubilee Field as recreational land.
