Sinkhole opens up in Thetford

Police news.
Police news.

Emergency services were called to a sinkhole that opened up in Thetford last night.

Police were called at 6.15pm to reports of an 8ft deep sinkhole, measuring about 15ft by 10ft, in Earls Street.

A fire crew from Watton were called to the scene shortly after 6.30pm and used working at height equipment to make the hole safe.

When the cavity opened up it took part of a garden wall with it, so the rest was taken down as a precaution.

Highways attended to fence off the area.

Engineers have today confirmed that the hole is not getting bigger.

They are currently on site waiting for Anglian Water to inspect it.

Earls Street remains open.
