A NEW sign has been unveiled on Mildenhall Road Estate in Bury St Edmunds dedicated to the memory of a much-loved former resident.
Arthur Smith lived on Gloucester Road for most of his life before his death last July at the age of 85.
As chairman of the Mildenhall Road Estate Residents’ Association he fought tirelessly for the good of the community.
MP David Ruffley unveiled the sign, which gives details all the estate’s roads, with Arthur’s daughters Wendy Dyer and Janet Gurnett this morning.
David said: “It is a big sign for Arthur Smith, who was a big man.
“He was a legend in the Mildenhall Road Estate known and respected by everybody who lived here.”
Arthur’s daughter Wendy said: “It is absolutely lovely - it’s smashing.
“If he was looking down and knows about the sign he would be delighted.”
