Self-rescue technique

SPONSORSHIP is being sought to enable a new self-rescue technique to be taught to all children free of charge.

Flip and Float, which teaches youngsters what to do if they fall into water, proved a success during its February launch at the indoor pool of Moreton Hall Health Club.

It uses soft toy characters Flip the otter and Float the turtle to demonstrate the skill of turning to the air, breathing and staying calm.

Scheme leader Sue Brown said: “The aim has always been to provide these courses for all children free of charge, as swimming lessons are becoming a luxury not all can afford and school swimming time is becoming increasingly shorter, but to do this the team are seeking sponsorship.”
