A husband and wife team are celebrating 10 years of their seeds company which has continued to bloom and are now gearing up for the new planting season.
Terry and Win Rayner launched Terwins Seeds in a garden shed at their home in Cockfield in 2003 before moving into larger premises in the village at Peppers Hall, in Old Hall Lane - supplying packets for the day to day gardener and larger quantities for horticulturists and small holders.
Preparing for the upcoming planting season, they have many new varieties this year including five types of carrot and runner beans Firestorm and Wisely Magic.
Mr Rayner, who has worked in the seeds industry since leaving school aged 16 for local and national companies before deciding to go it alone, said more people have wanted to grow their own vegetables in recent years due to the recession.
He said: “As the country has been getting poorer and poorer and people haven’t had wage rises they’ve been trying to grow things themselves.
“We’re gearing up now for the rush in January.”
The business runs mail order Internet sales and has expanded with stalls at the major national garden shows including Gardeners World and The Edible Garden Show.
They also run a stall on Saturday at Bury Market. Contact 01284 828255, email firstname.lastname@example.org and visit www.terwinseeds.co.uk
