Work on a second sculpture for Bury’s Abbey Gardens is nearing completion.

The woodcarving, called The Physician, is the second of four which are being created by artist, John Williams, to help tell the story of the work carried out by the monks in the Abbey.

Carved in elm, the Physician follows completion of the Mason, and will be followed by The Scribe and The Herbalist.

The sculptures were commissioned by Bury in Bloom co-ordinator, Melanie Lesser, and all will be in place this summer.

“The Physician looks amazing and we will be carefully deciding the exact locations for each,” said Melanie Lesser.

“John Williams has kindly donated his time for free and we are extremely grateful.”
