Celebrations were held as Mildenhall College transformed into Mildenhall College Academy on Monday.
Celebrations will be held as Mildenhall College transforms into Mildenhall College Academy today.
Headteacher, Susan Byles, said: “This is a very exciting time for the school and we are making our conversion to academy status with a small celebration.
“In all other respects we are just keen to get on with the business in hand - which is to offer the young people for whom we are responsible the best education we can.”
In becoming an academy the school has increased freedom in how to spend its budget and deliver the curriculum.
The Academy Transformation Trust will provide support as the school converts.
Ms Byles said: “Our aim over the next few years is to improve standards at GCSE even further, develop our sixth form in its own centre at the Sheldrick Way site and begin to introduce further education courses which will be open to members of the local community.”
