A SAFETY campaign by parents at Tollgate Primary School, in Bury St Edmunds, to get a crossing, is to be answered from Monday.
A three-week project to install a toucan crossing in Tollgate Lane, will start on Monday. The main work will be carried out during half term from February 21 to minimise disruption.
Headteacher David Hicks welcomed the news although he backed suggestions by the Mildenhall Road Association that the crossing should have been sited immediately outside the school gates, where a traffic island stands and where it is likely to get greater use from parents and children, rather than down toward Philip Road.
But a Suffolk County Council spokeswoman said: “The crossing is in that place as it is not just for the school and will link to other places in the town. It will also serve as a traffic calming measure before vehicles reach the traffic island.”
